A winter morning on the motorcycle, a truffle hunter and her dogs in an oak wood, a long truffle brunch at an old farmhouse, and the curves of the Montseny on the way home.
An hour and a half north of Barcelona, on the high plateau of the Lluçanès, a dog puts its nose to the ground under the oaks and stops. Right there, under the leaves, is a black truffle.
The morning is for the ride: out of the city, up through Vic and onto the quiet roads of the Lluçanès, to an old stone farmhouse in the Merlès valley. There a truffle hunter who has spent her life with truffles tells you their story, and her dogs show you how they find them.
Then the table: a truffle brunch so generous that most visitors call it lunch. And when the helmets go back on, we take the long way home, over the Montseny and its forest of curves.

The truffle keeps its own calendar
The black truffle ripens under the oaks in the cold months, and the hunts run from November to February. December has only a few dates; January and February are the heart of the season.
The hunts happen on weekdays, and Wednesdays and Thursdays are the best days. Book at least ten days ahead, so the farmhouse and the truffle hunter can keep the morning for you.

THE WAY HOME
Home over the Montseny
We never go home the way we came. After the brunch we ride back past Vic, climb to El Brull and cross the Montseny by the Collformic pass, then drop through the village of Montseny and its forest to the Vallès.
It is one of the favourite motorcycle roads of Barcelona: curve after curve, oak and chestnut and beech, and on a clear day the sea far down on the horizon. Turn the sound up.

GOOD TO KNOW
Before you come hungry
I know nothing about truffles. Is that a problem?
Not at all. The truffle hunter starts from the beginning: what a truffle is, where it grows and why it takes a dog to find it. By the brunch you will know more than most people who cook with them.
Is it cold on a motorcycle in winter?
Not really. Winter in Barcelona is mild and sunny, and it is one of the best times of year to ride: clear skies, quiet roads and no summer heat. A good jacket and gloves are all you need, and we will tell you exactly what to bring.
What language is it in?
The truffle hunter speaks Catalan, Spanish and English, and your guide is with you the whole time to help with anything that gets lost on the way.
How many people can come?
Every day is private, for one to four people: riders on their own motorcycles, passengers as Co-Riders, or both. For a bigger group, ask us.
When can I do it?
From November to February, on weekdays. Wednesdays and Thursdays are the best days, December has only a few dates, and January and February have the most. Book at least ten days ahead.
And if it rains?
The truffle hunt goes ahead in grey weather, but we do not ride in the rain. If rain is forecast, we move the day to another date with you.
How much is it, and how do I book?
The price depends on how you come: on your own motorcycle or as a Co-Rider. Send us a message on WhatsApp with the date and the number of people, and we will confirm availability and the final price.
Can I give it as a gift?
Yes. Tell us on WhatsApp who it is for and we will make a voucher with their name, valid for 12 months. The truffle season runs from November to February, so a voucher bought in summer is ready for the winter. If they would rather do something else with us in Barcelona, they can swap: if it costs more, they pay the difference; if it costs less, the difference is not refunded.
